No, what makes the “Poker Night” games fun are the characters in front of you interacting with each other. However, even when you are losing, the game is highly enjoyable since you are not playing to win necessarily. #Poker night at the inventory full#Ace high can be enough to win some rounds, but with pairs, flushes, straights, and full houses as potential combinations you should have at least a little bit of experience regarding poker. You bet on whether you have the strongest hand by playing poker in the usual way of checking, betting, bluffing, or folding, with the strength of your cards being determined by what combination you can make with the total of seven cards at your disposal. To reach that goal, you play Texas Hold’em Poker: Every player gets two cards from the deck, while there is community pool of five cards in the middle. Everyone starts out with 10,000$, and the goal is to remain at the table as the last player with the entire money in your pocket. Gameplay-wise, “Poker Night at the Inventory” is just what the name implies: A Poker tournament. Terrible flop, but enjoyable smalltalk is the formula of “Poker Night” in general. You join this merry band in a round of high-stakes poker, and the game begins. #Poker night at the inventory series#Mr Winslow leads you to a table on the stage, which already has four occupied seats with characters that might be familiar to some people: Max from the adventure game detective duo “Sam & Max”, Strong Bad from the web series “Homestar Runner”, Tycho Brahe from “Penny Arcade”, and the Heavy from “Team Fortress 2”. However, this game is not about alcohol, but about playing poker. Said founders of the “Inventory” obtained an early draft of the law, saw that it potentially also enabled the banning of games, and went to work creating a place in which all those commodities could still be enjoyed much like a speakeasy. He rambles on about the history of the place, how it was founded during the times of the 18th Amendment, aka the Prohibition, a time during which America outlawed the consumption of alcohol. The player is greeted by Reginald Van Winslow, marking the first guest character appearance since he was part of the “Tales of Monkey Island” series that Telltale Games developed. The “Poker Night at the Inventory” games starts with you, the player, entering the eponymous bar in some hidden alleyway somewhere in America. Thus started the existence of the “Poker Night” games, a subject that I would like to cover today on the 19th day of Blaugust 2022. Then, on May 15, 2009, Telltale Games started a survey with the goal of potentially reviving that franchise, but using characters from the various franchises they had the rights to use instead of producing some no-name face across the table. #Poker night at the inventory simulator#Early in the studio’s life, the team worked on a poker simulator with the name “Telltale Texas Hold’em”, using generic characters around a poker table to play against. However, even Telltale Games managed to produce titles that I find charming in an odd way, even though they have little to do with choices in dialogue, and more with choices in rational thinking and gambling. Now, it is easy to read from these lines that I am not a fan of Telltale’s works but then again Adventure Games as a whole are not my forte, so I am probably not the best source to talk to. ![]() What started with the idea of making Adventure Games appealing again for a modern market by streamlining choices in the “X will remember that”-style became more and more about growth, revenue, acquiring more franchises, pushing more product, and therefore caused a blandification of their games and the eventual shut-down of the company as a whole. Ah, Telltale Games, the dream of a game studio producing Adventure Games that turned into a crunch mode-nightmare. ![]()
